Understanding the CDC's Federal Moratorium on Evictions

From the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently issued a sweeping moratorium on most evictions that took effect on Friday. The CDC took this unprecedented step out of concern that mass evictions and homelessness will accelerate the spread of COVID-19 – something we’ve been saying for months.

Unlike the many local eviction moratoriums in Ohio that have now expired, the CDC’s order requires tenants to take action in order to be protected.

While this eviction moratorium won’t help tenants pay their rent, it is the best tool we have right now to stabilize at-risk Ohioans given our state and federal leaders continued refusal to fund an emergency rental assistance program.

Join us for the Understanding the CDC's Federal Eviction Moratorium webinar on Tuesday Sept. 15 at 2:00 p.m. to learn. We’ll have national and local experts explain how the order works and what housing and homeless providers can do to help tenants avoid getting evicted during this pandemic.
